Description: Sale Includes the Multi-Volt Version of the Pioneer SX-850 Receiver Being Shown
- Thank you for taking the time to check out this listing for this SX-850 from 1976.
- This is the multi-volt version, meaning it can be adjusted to run on other countries power grid.
- A lot of time, care, & high quality parts were put in to bringing this wonderful SX-850 back to its former glory.
- You will find each board has been carefully gone through, cleaned, inspected, many old parts removed and replaced with proper high quality new modern replacement parts. This includes Electrolytic capacitors replaced, along with many of the board transistors replaced to rid the unit of noise and distortion associated with these worn parts to deliver a brilliant and clear audio signal to your speakers.
- Additionally the Variable resistors on the main amp board was replaced to ensure the proper idle current and dc offset remains in its proper setting.
- Relay flyback mod was added to the protection board in addition to replacing the Q5 transistor responsible for activating the relay and taking the unit out of protection mode. The diode protects the transistor from being damaged during shutdown as this is a common issue with this early unit. Later Pioneer receivers would incorporate this protection in its circuit.
- The four differential 2SA725 transistors on the amp board (along with all other 2SA725 transistors and its mates) were replaced with gain matched KSA992 transistors. The 2SA725 transistor is a common fail point for this unit along with many other models it was used in and absolutely should be replaced at this point to ensure proper function and sound quality. A lot of people go in and rip out all of the old caps, yet do not replace the failing transistors, this can be equal to and often more important to restoring the units sound than replacing capacitors.
- Special care was taken with the Phono and Preamplifier tone boards. Matched transistors were installed along with audio grade capacitors and WIMA film caps along the entire audio path. You will find the preamp section in this unit to perform perfectly for all functions and deliver amazing Pioneer sound as it did the day it was first powered on.
- All lights were upgraded to LED. This adds nice cosmetic appeal, but also help reduce power consumption and strain on the units power supply and transformer as well as reduces the heat factor inside the unit to help preserve its performance and parts as LED run cool and vastly more efficient than the original incandescent bulbs originally used. If you prefer incandescent bulbs, it is very easy to reinstall them and we are happy to do so on request before shipping, but you will find the lights installed look as great as they perform.
- All controls and switches have been cleaned to remove carbon buildup internally and lubed to ensure no static or popping sound when making adjustments.
- Overall there has been about $400 of shop level repair work performed on the restoration of this unit and if you are one of the many fans considering making a purchase of a vintage SX receiver, this one will perform beautifully for you and save you the headache and money down the line of finding a good repair shop to perform what had already been done to this unit.
- If you would like more information or pictures of the repairs completed, please send a message.
- Lastly, because this unit does have a preamp out/In terminal in the back, there is no need to pay more for a bigger SX receiver. You can simply plug in a more powerful amplifier to this unit and use the preamplifier section to control the amplifier and still have that great Pioneer sound! You will save a lot of money vs buying a more powerful SX receiver and have a better amplifier section. We can help you with an amplifier if you are interested in both.
